Profile

The Department of Geology was established in 1985 in Acharya Nagarjuna University campus. It is guided by an objective to impart good quality of education in M.Sc Geology course and promote research activities in different thrust areas of Geology. The faculty equipped themselves with recent trends. The pursuits of research work of the faculty related to Petrology, Geochemistry, Hydrogeology, Remote Sensing and other Environmental issues. The students going out with their degrees from this department are settled in well ?established organizations. Currently the department is offering M.Sc.; M.Phil, and Ph.D programs. The Department has good Museum and laboratory with petrological microscopes, remote sensing equipment, sedimentological, analytical and field equipment. Students had been training with weekly field trips and survey. Good number of prescribed and reference text books are purchased/collected and made available in the department and Central Libraries. National and International journals are subscribed by the Central Library. The students and teachers maintain friendly relation and have personal counseling by teachers in the department.

Academic Achievements    
Most of the students leaving the department with cent percent results as well as first class with distinction. Students placed in the organizations like GSI, NGRI, SCCL, APMG, APGWD, APMDC and ONGC. Most of the students settled in the MNC and other private mining, oil drilling and granite industries. Considerable strength of students were also secured their jobs in the geospatial technology field as soft professionals. The department has organizing geological exhibitions for creating awareness about the natural resources and natural disasters. The department striving not only for imparts subjects knowledge but also moldfies the behavior of the students. Organization of campus interviews is also one of the parts of department vision.
