Profile

The Department of Mathematics was one of the few departments initiated at the time of establishment of the postgraduate center at Guntur by the Andhra University in 1967. The department specializes in the fields of Algebra, Analysis, Fuzzy Algebra , Graph Theory, Ring Theory, Fluid Dynamic, Near-ring Theory, Gamma Near-ring Theory, Special Functions, and Non-Linear Programming. The thrust areas of the department include Near-rings, Functional Analysis, Graph Theory, Special Functions and Universal Algebra. The Department has produced more than 32 Ph.D , Doctorates . Several products of Department established their credentials as good researchers in reputed institutions such as I.I.T.Delhi, Central University of Hyderabad, Manipal University Manipal, Manipal University Jaipur, JNTU Hyderabad, K.L. University, Adigrat University (Ethiopia), etc. The department has been helping several students and college teachers in their pursuit for higher mathematics . As many as 48 M.Phils have already been awarded and a good number of students are now working for their M.phil/Ph.D degrees. The number of research papers published in international/ national journals by the Teachers of the Department is 375. As an evidence of the work done by the department, many books were authored/edited by the teachers of our Department. PHI (Printice Hall of India, New Delhi) published books during 2009 and 2014; VDM Verlag Germany Published five books; and CRC Press (Taylor and Francis, England) published one book in 2013 authored by a Teachers of this Department. In total 46 Number of books were authored/edited by the Teachers of this Department. Four major research projects (sanctioned by the UGC, New Delhi) were successfully completed by the Teachers of the Department. Several teachers , in recognition of their research out put, are being invited by various mathematical associations and universities in and out side India for delivering talks at National and International symposia, conferences, seminars and refresher courses. One of our faculty in our department: Prof. Bhavanari Satyanarayana was awarded INSA visiting Scientist (2005-2006). Also Prof. Bhavanari Satyanarayana selected as a scientist under Indo-Hungarian Cultural Exchange Programme (2003) (by Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Hungary, and UGC, New Delhi) to do joint research work with a wordly renowned Radical Theorist: Prof. Richard Wiegandt of HAS, Budapest. He was also selected as Sr. Scientist to visit A.Renyi Institute of Mathematics, Budapest for scientific discussions under Bilateral Exchange programme (2005)of Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Budapest and INSA, New Delhi. The University had under taken MOU with the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (Deemed University), Manipal, Karnataka for Exchange of ideas and Collaborative Research work between the faculty of the Department of Mathematics of both the Universities. As a result more than 20 research papers were published in National/International Journals. The Department enthusiasm does not lag behind any others in promoting activities for development s of Mathematics by way of organizing National/International Seminars. An International seminar on Near Rings in 1984 and few National Seminars in 1989, 1996, 2006, 2014 (sponsored by U.G.C) were organized by the Department . The department hosted twice the Annual Conference of the AP Society for Mathematical Sciences. The department has also been helping the young teachers of Mathematics by conducting Mathematical Seminars in and around the University area, in affiliated colleges (in collaboration with the Department of Mathematics, ANU). This collaboration was creating a plot form for the interested teachers of Mathematics to meet and to have exchange of ideas in mathematics. The recent National Seminars conducted in the following colleges: SGS College, Jaggaiahpet, Krishna DT (11-12 November 2010), JMJ College, Tenali, Guntur DT (11-12 July 2011), KBN College, Vijayawada (25-10-2011, the 200th Birth Day of the Famous Algebraist: Everest Galois), SSN College, Narasaraopet, Guntur DT (23-10-2016). Famous algebraists: Prof. Stefen Veldsman (Oman); and Prof. Hans H Brungs (Canada) visited our department to deliver lectures in the year 2006 on the invitation of then the Head: Prof. Bhavanari Satyanarayana. The department has been recognized by the U.G.C. as a center for conducting Refresher Courses in Mathematics for University and College teachers and successfully conducted 11 Refresher Courses during 1990s. The Department has been updating the syllabus periodically keeping in mind the rapid changes taking place in Science and Technology and also depend on the mathematical needs of the society. Many enthusiastic employees are also opting for M.Sc. Mathematics through Distance Education Mode from the academic year 2003-204 and the CDE of ANU was catering the needs of the society. The faculty of the Department of Mathematics is also having collaboration with the mathematicians of several countries and published papers with joint co-authorship. The countries are: South Africa (Dr. Lungisile Godloza), Hungary (Prof. Richard Weigandt), Korea, Botswana, Iran, England, Algeria, Turkey, Jordon, Vietnam, Tunisia, Muscat, Nepal, Federal University of Agriculture (Nigeria), Quaid-i-Azam University (Pakistan), and Adigrat University (Ethiopia).
