The Department of Food and Nutritional Science came into existence in the year 2002 under the able guidance of Prof. D. Peramma, Head/Co-Coordinator of the Department while it was called Department of Home Science earlier. The Department is currently offering two post graduate programmes Branch I M.Sc., Clinical Nutritional and Dietetics & Branch II M.Sc., Food Science and Quality Control. The course duration is two years and semester system is adapted Continuous evaluation of the students is one through the year using different criteria. The department offering M.Phil and Ph.D progrommes from the year 2014 onwards. Majority of the Scholars were fellowship holders, carried out active research and received awards in scientific forums. The department has eminent faculty members with teaching, research and extension activities. The department strives to prepare students for careers in the dynamic and global food industry, public health and community nutrition sectors, health care and biomedical research. The department is actively engaged in community based programmes for imparting nutrition and health messages to the under-privileged sections of the society. Research projects have been undertaken by the department, sponsored by U.G.C. The faculty is actively involved in professional societies such as Nutrition Society of India, Indian Dietetics association etc.

Research Activities |

The department faculty members are actively involving in the research activities in the following areas Clinical Nutrition, Food quality and grading, Therapeutic Nutrition Diet and Degenerative diseases, Animal Nutrition and Community Nutrition
Research is one of the important activities of the courses as a partial fulfillment of MSc. Degree. Topics related to Nutrition and dietetics and Food Stands and quality control will be selected and students are made formulate a project, collect data and interpret the data statistically under the guidance of teachers.

Academic Achievements |

Most of the students got placement in hospitals as dietitians, nutrition expert in R &
DS of Food Industries, Research associates into NIN, ICMR, CFTRI and NNMB.
The department organized two national seminars and one work shop. Our faculty
members attended various National and International conferences and received
academic awards. Our faculty members are selected as associate fellows of AP
Akademy of Sciences.
